MCC Makes threading Hard Materials Easy! - A Successful Application
| A Japanese customer recently faced a serious threading challenge with SUS630 H900 (HRC 38–44), a material known for its toughness and high strength. Their conventional high-hardness taps failed after 3–4 holes, and each operation took over 30 minutes. Operators had to stand by and closely monitor every cycle to avoid unexpected tool breakage. Productive was low and unstable. To improve productivity and machining stability, they switched to the Nine9 MCC Mill, which is capable of cutting hardened steels up to 50HRC. • Material: SUS630 H900 (HRC 38–44) • Thread: M8 × 1.25 • Thread depth: 12mm • Tool: 99626-CR07-06-049 • Insert: R06007-06810-32 • Rotation speed: 1500 rpm • Feed: 45mm/min • Tool Pass: 0.57 - 0.61mm • Pilot hole: Ø6.87–6.88mm • Cutting direction: from bottom to top (blind hole machining) < Results > • Cycle time reduced by ~ 4 minutes (including countersinking) • Zero tool breakage – the 6-flutes of insert wore evenly. • Perfect thread profile- gauge passed on both GP and WP sides • Stable machining after optimizing the step-down depth • The NC program on website for M8×1.25 was quick and user- friendly Thanks to its full ground insert, the MCC Mill ensures outstanding cutting-edge accuracy and highly consistent performance- especially important when machining hardened materials. Of course, the customer immediately purchased the tool and inserts, and is now preparing to order additional sizes for threading M6 x P1 and M10 x P1.5 as well. ►► More information about MCC threading mill |
